Computer models give FSU a decent chance vs. Miami

Oddsmakers have Florida State is a heavy road underdog for this weekend’s contest at No. 12 Miami. The Hurricanes are now 11.5-point favorites, with the betting public going heavily on Miami giving points. Computer models are leaning towards Miami as well, although indications are that the game will be closer than oddsmakers and betters seem to believe.

BCF Toys projects Miami to win by 3.0 points, for example, and gives the Hurricanes a 58.8 percent chance of winning.

ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Miami a 56.3 percent chance of winning. This has swung the past couple weeks as FSU (0-1, 0-1 ACC) initially opened the season as a road favorite, but an opening loss to Georgia Tech and two quality wins by Miami (2-0, 1-0 ACC) has flipped the projection.

It’s worth noting that most computer models are still in the process of recalibrating season-based data compared to preseason projections. And they don’t account for variables like Mike Norvell not being on the sideline. Still, the metrics here seem to indicate that FSU — will unlikely to win — may not be anywhere near as outmatched as betting odds suggest.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Miami Gardens. Here’s how to watch, stream or listen to the game.
