Fraudster scams resident out of $900, gains control of her computer: Broadview Heights Police Blotter
BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio
Fraud, Honeysuckle Lane: On Sept. 7, a Honeysuckle Lane resident came to the police station to report she was the victim of fraud.
The woman said she was attempting to create an online banking profile when she received a call from a man with a foreign accent saying he worked for the IT department and he was going to refund her $500.
He then requested her checking account number, which she provided. The man called back saying he accidentally put $5,000 in her account.
He requested that she go to Walmart and pay him back in gift cards. She complied, purchasing $900 in gift cards and also giving him the card info.
The man then called back to say he took back the $5,000 from her savings account and was holding it until she repaid him back the money.
